Students Reach Out to Companies for Project

As part of the Social Studies curriculum that focuses on Pennsylvania, 3rd graders at Dayton Elementary wrote letters to Pennsylvania companies in search of information about the day to day operations in a company.  3rd grade teachers Tracy Eddy and Suzanne Burkett have been implementing this letter writing project for 3 years.  This year's letter writing campaign was a huge success.  Student Logan Geist's letter was mailed to Genesis Screens.   All 3rd grade students traveled to Genesis Screens to learn about shirt printing.  Every 3rd grader had the opportunity to print his/her own shirt and wear it home.  Next, 3rd grader Addison Petruzzi received a letter from Wise Foods, Inc.  Director of Sales and Operations Vince Bianco visited Dayton Elementary and presented a school-wide assembly on how potato chips are made.  All Dayton Elementary students received a snack bag and a coupon to share with their families for Wise snacks.   This project generated overwhelming responses from Pennsylvania companies and will continue to be a valuable part of the Social Studies curriculum at Dayton Elementary.
